In the "Monumental Reimagining" studio, you're about to embark on an exciting journey where we'll rethink the monuments in our community. We'll dive into the history and controversies surrounding them, and together, we'll imagine a future where our monuments truly represent our past, present, and future.
Picture this: your town hall has given you the important job of designing a monument, installation, or experience that tells untold stories, celebrates our community's values, and honors our history.
Your project will embody the essence of your community, drawing inspiration from the semester's exploration of globalization, race, and tolerance. You will reflect on the interconnectedness of humanity and the exchange of cultures within globalization, while considering race's impact on identity, social dynamics, and combating discrimination. Then you will explore how your proposed monument or interactive installation can champion tolerance, emphasizing values such as acceptance, respect, diversity, and inclusion to foster a more cohesive and harmonious community.
You'll have the freedom to choose whether your monument will be interactive or something you observe, and you can experiment with various materials and tools to take your monument design to a whole new level. In your final creation you will have to explain the story it tells and the creative choices you've made.
Your final deliverables will be:
- rapid prototypes (sketch model iterations) and final prototype in site model
- full scale prototype
- a concept statement
